MU Online Classes: The Season 6 Guide
Seven classes, three evolution stages for most of them, and one question every veteran remembers asking: which one should I play? Here is every class on UnrealMu, what it feels like, and how to unlock the special ones.
Ask a veteran about MU Online classes and you will usually get a story rather than a list. The first character they made, the class they swore they would never play and then did, the friend who insisted a Dark Wizard was "too fragile" right before carrying the party through Devias. This guide is our attempt to keep those stories and still be useful: it covers every class you can play in our Season 6 Episode 3 world, how each one evolves, how the special classes unlock, and how to decide.
Everything about classes, evolutions, starting stats and unlock rules below was checked against the real configuration of our server. Where we describe how a class feels, that is general impression from the original game, not a measurement. UnrealMu is an unofficial, fan-run server and is not affiliated with Webzen.
The seven classes at a glance
Our server offers seven creatable classes. Three are open from the very first day, and four are unlocked through your account as you play. Most classes grow through three stages: the class you start as, a first evolution, and a final "master" form.
| Class | Evolution chain | General role | Difficulty feel (general impression) | How to unlock |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dark Wizard | Dark Wizard, Soul Master, Grand Master | Ranged magic damage | Gentle to learn, fragile in a pinch | Available from the start |
| Dark Knight | Dark Knight, Blade Knight, Blade Master | Sturdy melee fighter | The easiest to pick up | Available from the start |
| Fairy Elf | Fairy Elf, Muse Elf, High Elf | Ranged attacker and support | Rewarding, a little more to manage | Available from the start |
| Summoner | Summoner, Bloody Summoner, Dimension Master | Magic with summoned help | Unusual and distinctive | Unlocked once any character on your account exists |
| Rage Fighter | Rage Fighter, Fist Master | Fast melee brawler | Quick and aggressive | Any character on the account reaches level 150 |
| Magic Gladiator | Magic Gladiator, Duel Master | Hybrid of sword and magic | The classic "do everything" class | Any character on the account reaches level 220 |
| Dark Lord | Dark Lord, Lord Emperor | Leader with a pet and a commanding presence | Distinct, rewards planning | Any character on the account reaches level 250 |
Two details are worth noticing. First, Rage Fighter, Magic Gladiator and Dark Lord have two stages in our data (the base class and one evolved form), while Dark Wizard, Dark Knight, Fairy Elf and Summoner have three. Second, the "difficulty feel" column is a general impression, not a rule: any class can be played well or badly.
How the special classes unlock
The three starting classes need nothing. The other four are unlocked per account, and the trigger is simple: the moment any character on your account reaches the required level, that class appears as an option when you create a new character. It does not matter which class got you there.
- Summoner: unlocks as soon as a character on your account reaches level 1, which in practice means as soon as you have made your first character.
- Rage Fighter: unlocks when a character reaches level 150.
- Magic Gladiator: unlocks when a character reaches level 220.
- Dark Lord: unlocks when a character reaches level 250.
Other servers use different thresholds, so do not rely on memory: these are the numbers on UnrealMu. Once unlocked, a class stays unlocked for the account. With the 100x and 1000x realms levelling quickly, you will meet these thresholds sooner than you might expect; see the realms and resets guide for how the three realms differ.
Starting stats
Every class begins with a different spread of Strength, Agility, Vitality and Energy (Dark Lord also has Command). These are the base values from our configuration, before you add any points yourself.
| Class | Strength | Agility | Vitality | Energy | Command |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dark Wizard | 18 | 18 | 15 | 30 | - |
| Dark Knight | 28 | 20 | 25 | 10 | - |
| Fairy Elf | 22 | 25 | 20 | 15 | - |
| Magic Gladiator | 26 | 26 | 26 | 26 | - |
| Dark Lord | 26 | 20 | 20 | 15 | 25 |
| Summoner | 21 | 21 | 18 | 23 | - |
| Rage Fighter | 32 | 27 | 25 | 20 | - |
You can read the story of each class in its numbers: the Dark Wizard's high Energy and low Vitality, the Dark Knight's Strength and Vitality, the Magic Gladiator's perfectly even spread. If you want to understand how those points grow later, the free reset system on UnrealMu adds a generous pool of bonus points each time; the details are in the realms and resets guide.
Dark Wizard: the glass cannon
The fantasy: a scholar who ends fights from across the screen. Playstyle: you keep your distance, cast, and let enemies come to you one step too late. What it feels like: satisfying and a little nervous, because your health pool is the smallest of the starting classes and a crowd that reaches you hurts. Suits: players who like cautious positioning and big, visible spells.
What veterans remember: the first time a whole pack of monsters dissolved in a flash of magic, and the nervous walk back after dying in a spot you thought was safe. Soul Master and Grand Master are the forms many people picture when they hear "MU wizard".
Dark Knight: the one you can always trust
The fantasy: armour, a sword and a steady heartbeat. Playstyle: stand in the middle of things and hit them. What it feels like: forgiving. Plenty of health, direct combat, and you can learn the game while the class carries the mistakes. Suits: newcomers, returning players who want comfort, and anyone who likes the sound of steel more than spellcasting.
What veterans remember: for many players the Dark Knight was a natural first character, and Blade Knight and Blade Master armour sets were what people stared at in Lorencia. If you want a gentle first week on UnrealMu, this is the safe choice.
Fairy Elf: the archer with a warm heart
The fantasy: a forest archer who is as happy helping friends as hunting. Playstyle: ranged attacks plus support abilities for the party. What it feels like: a bit more to manage than the Knight, but rich in return, because your usefulness to a group is not only about damage. Suits: patient players, team players, and anyone who enjoys being wanted in every party.
What veterans remember: a Fairy Elf in your party was a small kindness you noticed. Many players recall the early Elf as a slow start that became a favourite later, and the Muse Elf and High Elf stages as the point where it clicked. The Elf Soldier NPC in Lorencia, who hands out the beginner buff, will feel like home to any Elf main.
Summoner: the odd one out
The fantasy: a young mage who fights with the unseen. Playstyle: magic-based, with a different feel from the other casters. What it feels like: distinctive. It was added to the game well after the original three, so it has a different charm. Suits: players who want something other than the usual wizard, knight or elf, and who enjoy learning a class that fewer people play.
What veterans remember: the Summoner was the "new kid", and for many players the first class that felt like it belonged to a different game. On UnrealMu it unlocks as soon as you have any character, so there is no wait.
Rage Fighter: the quick brawler
The fantasy: a martial artist who lets their fists do the talking. Playstyle: fast, close-range combat with a modern, energetic rhythm. What it feels like: lively and direct. Its starting Strength (32) and Agility (27) are the highest of any creatable class. Suits: players who prefer momentum to caution.
What veterans remember: Rage Fighter was among the newest classes of the era, and plenty of players only met it years after starting. On ours, one character reaching level 150 opens it up.
Magic Gladiator: the best of both worlds
The fantasy: a duellist who can swing a blade and cast a spell in the same breath. Playstyle: hybrid; you are never limited to one way of fighting. What it feels like: flexible, and the starting stats (26 in everything) tell you the story: this class begins balanced and becomes what you decide. Suits: experienced players, people who enjoy building a character, and anyone who got bored of single-style classes.
What veterans remember: the long road to unlock it was part of the charm. Having a level 220 character was a rite of passage, and your first MG felt like a reward. It still does.
Dark Lord: the one who leads
The fantasy: a noble commander with a loyal companion. Playstyle: a melee-leaning leader whose Command stat gives it a different character-building puzzle than any other class. What it feels like: distinct and a little theatrical. Suits: planners, people who like an extra stat to think about, and anyone who wants their character to look like a lord of the realm.
What veterans remember: the Dark Lord was the "end of the road" class, the one you earned. Seeing one on the screen meant its owner had been around for a while.
So, what is the best class in MU Online?
It is the question behind most searches for "best class MU Online", and honestly the only truthful answer is that it depends on what you want from your evenings. Some pointers, offered as general impressions rather than rules:
- Want the gentlest start? Dark Knight.
- Like ranged play and being useful to a party? Fairy Elf.
- Love big spells and careful positioning? Dark Wizard.
- Want something less common? Summoner, available straight away.
- Prefer fast, close-up action? Rage Fighter, once a character hits level 150.
- Want to build something flexible? Magic Gladiator, at level 220.
- Want a character with a bit of ceremony? Dark Lord, at level 250.
A practical tip: because Summoner unlocks at once and the others unlock at account level thresholds, there is no reason to agonise. Start with one of the three open classes, enjoy it, and let the others come to you.
Three realms, the same seven classes
All three realms on UnrealMu (Hard 5x, Classic 100x and Fast 1000x) use the same classes. Your account is shared, but characters are separate in each realm, so you can try a Dark Wizard on Classic and a Dark Knight on Hard without losing anything. Resets are free: at level 400 you can reset your character back to level 1, gaining 500 bonus stat points each time, up to 100 resets, while keeping your items, skills and master progress. That makes experimenting with a class cheaper than it ever was in the original game.
If you are still deciding where to begin, take a look at maps and hunting spots, read about remembering Lorencia, or see how to play in your browser.
Frequently asked questions
Which classes can I create on UnrealMu?
Dark Wizard, Dark Knight and Fairy Elf are available from the start. Summoner unlocks once any character on your account exists, Rage Fighter at level 150, Magic Gladiator at level 220 and Dark Lord at level 250.
How do I unlock Magic Gladiator, Dark Lord and Rage Fighter?
Unlocking is per account. When any one character on your account reaches the required level (220 for Magic Gladiator, 250 for Dark Lord, 150 for Rage Fighter), that class becomes available on the character creation screen.
What is the best class in MU Online?
There is no single best class. Each one trades speed, safety and complexity differently, so the best class is the one whose playstyle you enjoy for hundreds of hours. The guide below helps you match a class to your taste.
Can I change class later?
No. A character keeps its class, and classes evolve along a fixed chain, for example Dark Knight to Blade Knight to Blade Master. If you want to try another class, create another character; all characters on an account share one login.
Are the classes the same in all three realms?
Yes. Hard 5x, Classic 100x and Fast 1000x all use the same seven classes. Characters are separate per realm, so you can try a different class in each one with the same account.
