UNREALMU PLAYER PORTAL

MU Online maps and hunting spots: where to level

From the first spider in Lorencia to the deserts of Tarkan, here is how the world of UnrealMu fits together, which monsters live where, and where to level in the early hours.

Ask a veteran about MU Online and they rarely start with a boss or a set of wings. They start with a place: the square in Lorencia, the cold wind of Devias, the first time they stepped into the Dungeon. This guide is a tour of the MU Online maps on UnrealMu, written for two kinds of reader: the old player who wants to remember, and the newcomer wondering where to level. Everything about monsters and level requirements below was read from the actual server data, not from memory.

UnrealMu is an unofficial, fan-run server and is not affiliated with Webzen. It runs Season 6 Episode 3, so the world is the big one: dozens of maps, from the starter town to the late-game lands.

How the world is laid out

The map list on our server follows the Season 6 Episode 3 world. The towns and early fields come first: Lorencia, Noria, Devias, the Dungeon and the Lost Tower. After them come Atlans, Tarkan and Icarus, then later lands such as Aida, Kanturu, Elvenland, Crywolf Fortress, Karutan, La Cleon and Vulcanus. Event maps (Blood Castle, Chaos Castle, Devil Square, Kalima and Illusion Temple) are in the data too; see the events guide for how those work.

Moving between maps is done through warp gates and the move command, and many gates have a minimum level. These are the ones we checked in the live game data:

DestinationMinimum level (gate)
Noria (from Lorencia)10
Devias (from Lorencia)15
Dungeon (from Lorencia)20
Lost Tower (from Devias)40
Atlans (from Noria)60
Tarkan (from Atlans)130
Aida (from Noria)130

Treat these as the entry gates, not as a recommendation. A character at the minimum level will often struggle, so most players arrive a little stronger than the number asks.

Lorencia: where everyone begins

Lorencia is the map people dream about years later. Stone streets, a market square, the blacksmith, potion girl and bar, and just beyond the walls the open grass where you swing your first sword. Even the music is part of the memory. Our nostalgia piece Remember Lorencia goes into the feeling; here we stay practical.

The monsters that spawn in Lorencia on our server are: Spider, Bull Fighter, Elite Bull Fighter, Hound, Budge Dragon, Skeleton Warrior, Lich and Giant. That list, and the coordinates below, are our verified hunting spots (x, y):

Lorencia hunting spots

MonsterWhere (x,y)
Spiders(180,128), (88,127), (133,79)
Liches(133,174), (155,227), (140,180), (150,170)
Skeletons(165,171), (140,220)
Giants(45,55), (131,201)
Elite Bull Fighter(32,105)
Hound(65,200)
Bull Fighter(180,60)
Budge Dragon(218,149)

A sensible route for a fresh character: start on the spiders close to town, then walk down to the skeletons and liches as your level climbs, and visit the giants when you feel confident. Keep the Budge Dragon and the elite bull fighter for later; they are not first-hour targets.

The Elf Soldier buff

Before you leave town, find the Elf Soldier. This NPC gives a 60-minute beginner buff, roughly +90 damage and +100 defence at low level, scaling with your level. It works up to level 220 and is lost if you die, so renew it after a death. In Lorencia the NPCs stand at (96,129), (174,129), (130,128) and (132,165), so the buff is never far from the hunting fields. Our beginner guide shows where it fits in your first hour.

Noria: the green forest

Noria is the Elf homeland, and veterans remember it for its soft, wooded look and for the goblins that made it a first stop for many classes. On our server it holds Goblin, Elite Goblin, Beetle Monster, Hunter, Forest Monster, Agon, Chain Scorpion and Stone Golem, with the Chaos Goblin and Charon among the NPCs. The gate from Lorencia asks for level 10, which makes it the natural first step away from the starter town.

Devias: snow and wind

For a lot of players Devias was the first map that felt like travelling. Everything about it is cold, from the white ground to the music. You will meet Ice Monster, Ice Queen, Hommerd, Worm, Assassin and Elite Yeti here. The Lorencia gate needs level 15, and from Devias onward the Lost Tower gate asks for level 40.

The Dungeon: the first real fear

Level 20 and a dark, narrow place full of skeletons. The Dungeon is where the original game stopped being a stroll. The spawn data lists Skeleton Warrior, Skeleton Archer, Elite Skeleton, Larva, Hell Spider, Hell Hound, Poison Bull, Cyclops, Gorgon, Ghost, Dark Knight and Thunder Lich. It rewards patience and a good set of potions, and it is where many parties formed in the old days.

Lost Tower: stairs and shadows

A tall, grim stronghold reached from Devias at level 40. Its monsters here are Shadow, Poison Shadow, Cursed Wizard, Death Gorgon, Death Cow, Devil, Death Knight and Balrog. It is a grinder's map, and a place where veterans remember the long climb more than any single drop.

Atlans, Tarkan and Icarus

Atlans is the water world, entered from Noria at level 60: Lizard King, Hydra, Vepar, Valkyrie, Silver Valkyrie, Bahamut and Great Bahamut. Tarkan, the desert reached from Atlans at level 130, has Bloody Wolf, Iron Wheel, Tantallos, Zaikan, Mutant, Beam Knight and Death Beam Knight. Icarus, the sky city, spawns Drakan, Great Drakan, Phantom Knight, Alquamos, Queen Rainer, Alpha Crust, Mega Crust and Dark Phoenix. For many players these were the maps of the middle game, where wings began to matter.

Later lands

Once you leave the classics behind, the Season 6 world keeps going. A brief, data-checked list of what spawns:

  • Aida: Bloody Orc, Bloody Golem, Death Rider, Witch Queen and others (gate from Noria, level 130).
  • Elvenland: Grizzly, Captain Grizzly, Cursed Lich, Totem Golem, Polluted Butterfly and rabbits.
  • Kanturu: Berserker, Genocider, Gigantis, Kentauros, Satyros and Blade Hunter in the ruins; Dreadfear, Persona and Twin Tale deeper in.
  • Crywolf Fortress, Karutan, La Cleon, Swamp of Calmness, Vulcanus: all present in the server data with their own monsters.

We have not tested the balance of each of these maps for this guide, so we will not tell you their best spots. Explore them, ask on the community forum, and share what you find.

Reading the map: coordinates and spawns

The coordinates in this guide are the (x,y) numbers shown on your in-game map and position display. Lower x and y numbers are one side of the map and higher ones the other, so (45,55) and (218,149) are far apart. Spots are areas, not single tiles; monsters wander and respawn, so walk a little around the coordinate rather than standing on it. If a spot is crowded, a few steps away is usually just as good.

The bot players that keep the world lively (clearly separated from real players in the rankings) are part of why the world feels lived in. We are honest that they exist, and they never count as real players in the rankings.

What veterans remember about travelling

In the early 2000s, getting to a new map was an event. You checked your level, packed potions, and moved to the next gate half-expecting to be sent back. That small tension is part of the game's charm, and it survives here: the gates are strict about levels, so the world opens up gradually. There is no rush. Many of us spent whole evenings on one map, then talked about it for years.

A few habits help in any map. Carry more potions than you think you need. Notice where the safe zone is before you wander out. Do not leave the buff to expire in the middle of a pack, and do not chase a monster across a boundary into a pack you did not plan to fight. If you die, you lose the Elf Soldier buff, so renew it before heading back.

Where to level, in plain terms

  1. Start in Lorencia with the Elf Soldier buff, on the spiders.
  2. Move to the skeletons and liches as you get stronger.
  3. Take the gate to Noria or Devias when your level allows.
  4. Use the Dungeon for a tougher pace from level 20.
  5. Look at the Lost Tower, Atlans and beyond only after you are comfortable in the earlier maps.

Your realm changes the speed. Hard 5x, Classic 100x and Fast 1000x are the same maps at very different pace, and what suits you depends on the realm you pick. Your class matters too: see the classes guide before choosing where to fight. You can play in your browser and be standing in Lorencia in a few minutes.

Frequently asked questions

What are the best Lorencia hunting spots in MU Online?

For a new character, spiders at (180,128), (88,127) and (133,79) are a gentle start. Once you can handle more, move to the lich spots such as (133,174) and (155,227), the skeleton spots at (165,171) and (140,220), and then the giants at (45,55) and (131,201).

Where should I level up in MU Online after Lorencia?

On UnrealMu the warp gates ask for a minimum level: Noria needs level 10, Devias needs 15 and the Dungeon needs 20. Most players leave Lorencia for Noria or Devias once the Lorencia monsters stop being a challenge.

Which maps exist on UnrealMu?

The Season 6 Episode 3 world: Lorencia, Dungeon, Devias, Noria, Lost Tower, Atlans, Tarkan, Icarus, Aida, Elvenland, Kanturu, Crywolf Fortress and more, plus the event maps such as Blood Castle, Chaos Castle and Devil Square.

Is there a level requirement to enter maps?

Yes, the warp gates on our server list minimum levels, for example level 10 for Noria, 15 for Devias, 20 for the Dungeon, 40 for Lost Tower, 60 for Atlans and 130 for Tarkan. Check them in game before you travel.

Does the Elf Soldier buff help when levelling?

Yes. The Elf Soldier NPC gives a 60-minute beginner buff of about +90 damage and +100 defence at low level, scaling with your level. It works up to level 220 and is lost if you die.
